Who knew you could get the stomach flu in the middle of Spring. I mean I knew, but really didn't think it would happen to me. I figured, why not write a blog post about how I got through the dreaded stomach flu, and help others
kick the flu to the curb as well! Of course I like to remain all natural even when I'm sick, however it is really hard not to reach for that bottle of Advil or Gravol. I try my best to fight that urge, and use my oils instead. I'd like to thank not only On Guard but Digest Zen for getting me through the flu. But I'm actually serious! I love to use my oils to not only suppress and treat my sickness but to prevent my sickness from spreading and potentially getting others sick. These are my favourite ways to use them:
I always always always have my diffuser going with On Guard in it. On Guard is one of Doterra's most popular oils, and I mean, its pretty obvious why. It supports healthy immune function, protects against sickness and bacteria, and supports the body's natural antioxidant defences. Having it constantly diffusing not only benefits myself, but everyone coming into contact with surfaces I have touched, or coming into contact with me. I apply On Guard on the soles of my feet daily for the same purpose. I also will, before I touch anything or anyone, put a drop into my hands and rub it in to kill bacteria.
*Doterra has On Guard capsules that I actually take daily, regardless of if I am sick. When I am sick, however, I take 2-3 a day until the sickness subsides.
This basically becomes my perfume when I'm sick. I literally always have it lathered on my feet, tummy, neck, everywhere! This is another one of Doterra's miracle blends. It contains Ginger, Peppermint, Tarragon, Fennel, among others that work wonders for an upset tummy. I also make Digest Zen tea, which has 2 drops of Digest Zen, a slice of lemon, and hot water. You can also use Ginger Oil, if you prefer the taste.
I don't know if it's just me, but whenever I am sick I can never sleep at night. Thats where this oil rolls in. Lavender is known for its relaxing, and calming benefits and hence why its incredible to help you sleep. I use my roller bottle (lavender and coconut oil), and put it on the soles of my feet and the back of my neck before I sleep. I will also put 2 drops in my diffuser with 1 drop of On Guard, to still get the benefits of On Guard while I sleep.
If I am feeling congested or a little stuffy I will use my roller bottle and put some on my chest. Peppermint is also great to cool down the body and treat fevers. I like to roll peppermint on the soles of my feet, and up my spine to cool down the body.
Along with On Guard, Oregano is another great oil to kill bacteria and supports the body's natural antioxidant defences. Since Oregano does not smell the yummiest (unless you are like my mom and love the smell lol) I usually just roll it on the soles of my feet. You can also take Oregano in capsule form. I just take the Oreganol brand, however any brand will work.
Well I hope these tips help, because they truly did help me.
